Copies will be available at all shows and some shops in town, details on that to come.  For now, you can order the LP on bandcamp, or steam for your listening pleasure.

We’re very happy to be able to really share this with everyone.  Tim put a few tear drops in each sleeve.  DOnt’ let them dry out.

We’ve really been ignoring this site for a while, so i’ll make a quick attempt to bring events up to speed. After playing out as a two piece this fall , we’ve become a band again. Longtime friend Mike Nesta (who played with us for a spell back in summer 2009 when we were in/ around philly) is handing bass duties and newcomer Steve Crano is on Piano and Organ.

The new lineup solidified in time to see the actual release of ‘Never Worried About a Thing in My Life” which will be available at the Brillobox on Febuary 11th. We’ll be playing with Dazzletine and Legs Like Tree Trunks. We pressed 200 LP total, and they will be $10 a piece.

This past wednesday, we played on the 92.1 WPTS live show and will be releasing the set on a cassette a short cassette run this spring. The forty five minute set features songs from “Never Worried About a Thing…” alongside a handful of unreleased songs and some R&B dance numbers.

Thats all for now, i’ll post pictures of the album art in a few days.

We played at Hambones last night in lawrenceville with good friends Owl Style and new friends Poor Old Jim from Grand Rapids Michigan.  Check them out!  Support Hambones! Its a nice open room they have going there.  If anyone is interested in setting up a show talk to MARY JO.  Mad thanks to Jo for puttin up with us yet again, and always telling funny stories.

Ursa Major at hambones.  As some of you may have noticed, long time friends Steve Whisler, Tim Haney, and Kyle Lambert have, over the past few months, picked up and moved on one by one down the highway.  For the time being, we’l operate as a stripped down two piece unit.  The fall has been busy for us as we get back into the swing of things.  Here are some future shows.  One tomorrow night: East Liberty house party at JoDoh’s place.  Playing with a punk band from Greece whose name i can’t recall and locals Glowworms.

Upcoming shows:

Oct 24th – JO DOH’S HAYS STREET ABODE w/ Glowworms, Unfun

Nov 14th – Garfield Artworks w/ Legs like tree trunks

Nov 18th – Future Tenant Gallery (Downtown) Pittsburgh, PA w/ new shouts, neighbors

In other news united record press is currently serving up 200 copies of  “never worried about a thing in my life”

A release will be help in december. We’re not sure of the format for the release event yet, keep posted.

Until next time

Pressing a Vinyl LP , as we have learned, takes a bit longer than one plans. As mentioned before, we’ve been through recording and mastering, and now pressing looms ahead along with simultaneous artwork creation. We apologize to the few people who are excited to hear this, its going to take a minute more. BUT there is good news. I’m speaking of physical releases here, and thank to cutting edge 21st century technology, we’ll be posting “Never Worried About a Thing in My Life” on bandcamp for free download leading up to the record release. You’ll get to download the album for free before getting a free copy at the record release. We’ll let you know when it posted! Soon Soon Soon!

Last night we played with Fossil Eyes from Baltimore at our beloved Doo Wop, and by our count, it was our 100th show as a band. We want to thank everyone for helping us get to this point, and though its just an arbitrary number, we feel somewhat proud of it.

As some of you may have noticed at our past two shows, our lineup has been more sparse than usual. We are currently playing as a three piece band, and are sad to report that both Kyle Lambert and Steve Whisler have moved on to the city of Philadelphia. We are sad to lose em, and wish them the best . Kyle is continuing music with his Boy Scout of America project, keeping especially productive, while Steve has taken part time work as a fluffer while working on his masterpiece novel.

We currently don’t have any more shows posted… but we’ll be doing some out of town happenings in September with friends ARLO AND THE OTTER, the record release, and a subsequent tour. Thanks for sticking with us, heres to another hundred shows.

After months and months of hiding away this winter and spring, we managed to wrap up our new record – twelve previously unreleased songs.  The beast is getting mastered now in Chicago by Carl Saff and will be pressed by United onto 12″ LPs. Leaks from the album will be available soon – and the finished thang will be ready for public consumption in september of this year, along with a slightly earlier online release.

We’re playing at the brillobox with tennessee’s THOSE DARLINS on friday 6/17. We’ve got some other things in the works for July – some house shows and a gig at the shop. Keep yer eyes peeled.

Speaking of vids… our friend Ben Tabas was nice enough to record a good bit of our set on at the beach house on VHS the other night in 1985. The audio sounds crazy, but it looks pretty rad.

So we here in the Ursa Major department at Sugartop Industries have been talking about making one of those music films or sound videos–or whatever the kids call it these days–for quite a while now. And we will. Soon. But it turns out that at one point we did make a video or two. Sorta.

Here’s a simple little homemade video from this past fall featuring a demo of “Getting Warmer”–you can almost taste the sweet nectar of the warm Pittsburgh air.

And this here is a bit of a relic from before we released Great Big Light about a year ago. Just us in the kitchen have a nice quiet session. Notice that Tim is absent. He was going through a rough time.

Had a great time at the Beach House this weekend–thanks to everyone who came out, played themselves, hosted the party and/or pissed themselves.
